BaseCamp Bonn - Germany

Decorated by film set designer Marion Seul, BaseCamp is a cool, unique and extremely ingenious youth hostel housed in a former storage facility in Bonn, Germany. Developed as a campground, the hotel comprises 16 vintage caravans named according to the quirky decoration themes inside, from Big Ben and Drag Queen to Flower Power and 20.000 Leagues under the Sea. Moreover, guests will have the opportunity to sleep in a train, an American Airstream, a Trabant or a retro VW Transporter, to name but a few of the campground’s odd accommodation units.

El Cosmico - Marfa, TX, USA

Although it may not be your usual 5-star experience, El Cosmico has its quirks and eccentricities that make it unique. Beautifully restored vintage trailers, peculiar tepees and well-equipped safari tents make up this 18 acre nomadic hotel in the remote, yet artsy city of Marfa, in the far West Texas. Inspired by America’s hippie movement and traditional Indian beliefs, renowned architects and ingenious students have managed to create an oasis of calm and creative energy in the middle of nowhere, offering travelers something that no other place really does - the chance to express themselves and to live, at least for a while, in a community of like-minded folks.
